Uploading Art to Artsonia in Google Classroom

Uploading Art to Artsonia

Artsonia is the location of your electronic portfolios. I do need your parents to login and create an account, but you are still able to upload artwork even if they haven't done so yet. During class and especially during virtual learning, I will need you to be able to photograph and upload your artwork to the website. I am posting the link to the Class Portal so you can access it directly. I am also posting a link to a video showing how to find your class (VA Comp 1- 3rd or 4th block) and upload artwork to projects. Our access code is -

RBSZ-SKFK
Note- when accessing artsonia through the website artsonia.com in the video it has a button that says student, but it now says artist.
I have included a video on how to use a chromebook to take photos of your artwork as well.
You DO NOT need to upload your artwork to the Google classroom, only to Artsonia.

Due:

Shape + Line = Form in Google Classroom

Shape + Line = Form

Today we are going to build on some of the elements we have already been learning about to create artwork for a collaborative artwork.
We are going to use a hexagon shaped paper, a diamond shape, and 3 lines to create a cube. We will place all those cubes together to create a larger work. See image below.
Artist are constantly using the basic elements of art to create even more complicated images. So far, we have learned how lines can define shapes- contour, cross contour and outlines. and how shapes are created by enclosing space with lines. We will now combine shapes and lines to create another element of art- Form.
For those of you at home. Watch the video below to create a hexagon on a paper. Use a plate to create the circle so your hexagon is not very small. Use lines to create an isometric cube-
What is an isometric cube?

The projections of the edges of a cube make angles of 120° with each other. ... The angles in the isometric projection of the cube are either 120° or 60°, and all are projections of 90° angles. In an isometric projection of a cube, the faces of the cube, and any planes parallel to them, are called isometric planes.
If you already have a hexagon, all you need to do is draw a line the length of one of the sides straight up from one of the points, and then draw two more lines to the points to either side of the top point. See the illustration below.
The next steps are to decorate your cube. I want you to leave the top side (diamond white- it is blue in the example I posted), but the other two sides need specific designs. On one, I want you to start at the bottom and create values with a color. You can use crayons, colored pencils, tempera paint, watercolor (this one is the hardest) to create a value scale like those below, or challenge yourself to create an image that uses tints and shades like the next example. The last side can be anything you would like to draw, paint, collage, etc. It is up to you. Have fun!
When you are done, put the artwork on plane background, keep your camera parallel to the art and take a photo to upload to your art website. The instructions for that are at the top of the assignment in the google classroom.

Due:

Shape in Google Classroom

Shape

We will be starting everyday with some Pirate Prep exercises in your sketchbook. At the top of your page put Monday's Date. On the bottom of the page, draw a single line about one inch above the bottom of the page. Draw 2 lines to break the rest of the page into 4 sections. See example below.Continuing on in our unit on the Elements of Art, we are going to explore Shape- another one of the 7 basic elements of art.
Watch the video below.
For those of you not in the classroom. I have included videos that have all the directions for you to complete this lesson. Parts 1-3

Due:

8/18-8/19- Value in Google Classroom

8/18-8/19- Value

We are going to start today with a short anxiety reducer- not a full meditation session, but something that releases negative energy. It only takes one minute. Watch the video and follow along. We will be doing a few of these throughout the week, but on Mondays we will Meditate for 5 minutes- Meditation Mondays.
Starting tomorrow, when you enter the room, there will be a vocabulary word or a drawing prompt on the board. You will need to complete that in your sketchbook. Remember that there will be sketchbook checks throughout the semester. So you need to be completing the work everyday.
Today we are going to continue with our study of the elements of art. For those of you that missed it, please review Monday's lesson in the google classroom on your own. Our lesson today is on VALUE. Value is the variation in lightness and darkness. The first thing you need to learn when starting to draw is that pencils come in different hardness and softness. Video explanation below.
How does value affect your artwork? Check out the 3rd video below.
Today we are going to start a piece called "My Values." The word value has a specific meaning in art, but in life, there are lots of things that we put value on.
The first step in creating this value drawing is to create a continuous line scribble that fills the page. Don't get too carried away, but you do need at least 10 or more sections created by the scribble. Your scribble shouldn't be crazy. It should be controlled. Next, you are going to draw things you value or images that illustrate a range of values inside each of the sections. Use your pencils and blending tools to help you get a range of value that give the drawing some contrast. Contrast means opposites in art. So, light-dark, thick-thin, big-little, etc. See my example and some close up details below.
This assignment will be due at the end of class on Thursday, and this will be put in the gradebook. There will be a printed rubric, but it is attached below as well.

Due:

8/17 Lines & Contour Lines in Google Classroom

8/17 Lines & Contour Lines

We are going to learn how to draw contour and cross contour lines. Line is one of the elements of art, and the easiest to understand. Watch the first video below to understand what a contour line is.
In your sketchbook. Attempt to draw a contour line drawing of your hand. Try not to look at the paper as much as you are looking at your hand. See the example posted below.
Now we are going to extend our understanding our contour lines to see how lines can help us identify the form of an object. Lines used for this purpose are called cross contour lines. See the hand drawing example below the contour drawing of a hand. It is an example of a cross contour line drawing.
We are going to watch the second tutorial and draw along with the artist. Starting at the  3 minute 30 second mark. If you want to watch the whole video for better understanding you may.
Lastly, we are going to create a simple cross contour line drawing of some little characters- see image below. If you are at home, I have included a tutorial for you. If you want to attempt a cross contour drawing on your own because you want more of a challenge, I have included some examples of more complicated cross contour images for examples.
We are going to work on this drawing until the end of class. If we need to work on it a little more tomorrow, we will.

Due:

Day 3 - Inspirational Sign in Google Classroom

Day 3 - Inspirational Sign

We are going to incorporate an inspirational word into a graphic display to share with others.
Make sure you practice your word in cursive a bunch of times before transferring it onto the drawing paper.
I want you to incorporate color and pattern into the design somehow. It should somehow relate to your word.
A great way to incorporate color is to do a watercolor wax resist. I have a video tutorial for you to watch for inspiration.
I have also included several examples to look at.
