SAP-10.B: Explain the relationship between the ability of a buffer to stabilize pH and the reactions that occur when an acid or a base is added to a buffered solution.

8.9 Henderson-Hasselbalch Equation

SAP-10.C: Identify the pH of a buffer solution based on the identity and concentrations of the conjugate acid-base pair used to create the buffer.

8.10 Buffer Capacity

SAP-10.D: Explain the relationship between the buffer capacity of a solution and the relative concentrations of the conjugate acid and conjugate base components of the solution.

I can understand Equilibrium relates to acids and bases.

I can understand how the equivalence point is shown in a titration reaction and what that means for the math. 

I can complete a virtual lab dedicated to the topic of titrations and how to do calculations associated with acid-base equilibrium.

Success Criteria:

I can learn about how a titration lab works through a Virtual Lab experience.

I can calculations associated with acid-base equilibrium with weak acids and/or weak bases, pH, and Ka and Kb.

     You Do:

  1. Watch BozemanScience video on "Free Energy and Equilibrium Constant"
  2. Watch EdPuzzle video on "Titration"
  3. Go to AP Classroom to work on some practice questions.

Closing (We Check):

  1. Continue your work on Unit #8 Suggested Reading and ECQ schedule.

Individual work on webquest, video clips, and practice problems at their own pace.

Completing the lab safely is formative. 

Completing the book problems, lab write-up, and future unit test will be summative.
