I can pick out symbols in a work of literature.
Introduction/Connection:
Why would someone choose to tell their story in graphic novel form rather than in prose? How does it change HOW you tell your story? Compare what you read today, to what you read yesterday. How does it change how you see the story?
DIRECT INSTRUCTION:
Review Maus from yesterday. How does it change what we see on the page today?
Discuss what we know about WW2 and the Holocaust before reading on their own.
Discuss how an author’s word choice affects a piece of literature.

Students read Night pg. 3 to 26.

GUIDED PRACTICE:
Read Night pg. 3 to 26 and discuss the differences in Elie's experiences to that of Vladek.
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
You Do: Create a timeline of events as we read.
Answer guided reading questions.
