Introduction/Connection:

Are children innocent? (Have someone share a personal story about the ‘innocence’ or lack thereof)


DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

What is figurative language? Review figurative language.
Discuss how an author’s word choice affects a piece of literature.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:

Read “The Veldt”

You Do: Identify figurative language and sensory details as we read.
With provided lyrics from “The Veldt” by Dead Maus, students will identify allusions to the short story. (Day 2)
