Graphing Quadratics in Standard Form

Date of Instruction:

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standards:

  • MGSE9-12.F.IF.7 Graph functions expressed algebraically and show key features of the graph both by hand and by using technology.

  • MGSE9-12.F.IF.7a Graph quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima, and minima (as determined by the function or by context).

Learning Target:

  • I can graph quadratic functions in Standard Form.

Success Criteria:

  • I can identify a, b, and c values of the quadratic equation.

  • I can identify the axis of symmetry x=-b/2a.

  • I can use the axis of symmetry to find the vertex.

  • I can make a table of values.

  • I can plot points on a graph..

Introduction/Connection:

  • Pirate Prep

  • Go over yesterdays assignment

  • Review Standard Form of a Quadratic Equation

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

  • Guided Notes- Graphing Quadratics in Standard Form

  • Guided Notes- Graphing Quadratics in Vertex Form

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:

  • Guided Examples- I do, We do, You do. Students will come up to the board to complete You Do problems.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

  • Scaffolding and small groups will be used for students who are struggling to clarify for understanding.

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics in Standard Form

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics in Vertex Form

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics Mixed Review

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

  • Teachers will visually and orally assess students throughout the class period and will frequently check for understanding.

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics in Standard Form

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics in Vertex Form

  • Practice- Graphing Quadratics Mixed Review
