Arithmetic Sequences

Date of Instruction:

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standards:

  • MGSE9-12.F.BF.2 Write arithmetic sequences recursively and explicitly, use them to model situations, and translate between the two forms. Connect arithmetic sequences to linear functions.

Learning Target:

  • I can solve and find the nth term of an arithmetic sequence.

Success Criteria:

  • I I can identify the common difference.

  • I can calculate a designated term of the sequence.

  • I can apply the arithmetic sequence formula.

Introduction/Connection:

  • Pirate Prep

  • Go over yesterdays worksheet

  • Assignment Corrections on Friday’s assignment. I will review Arithmetic Sequences, how to find the first term, designated term and the common difference. Students will then be given time to make corrections to the assignment they completed before turning it in for a grade.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

  • Guided Notes- Arithmetic Sequences

  • Guided Notes- Arithmetic Sequence Word Problems

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:

  • Guided Examples- I do, We do, You do. Students will come up to the board to complete You do problems

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

  • Scaffolding and small groups will be used for students who are struggling to clarify for understanding.

  • Practice- Arithmetic Sequences

  • Practice- Arithmetic Sequence (Scaffold Assignment)

  • Sequencing Activity

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

  • Teachers will visually and orally assess students throughout the class period and will frequently check for understanding.

  • Practice- Arithmetic Sequences

  • Practice- Arithmetic Sequence (Scaffold Assignment)

  • Sequencing Activity
