Opening (I Do)
An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

Standards:
ELAGSE9-10SL2: Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source.
ELAGSE9-10RI1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
ELAGSE9-10W10: Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.


Learning Target:

I can analyze/compare two photographs.
Success Criterias:
I can write a bulleted list of characteristics of a photograph.
I can write for 3 minutes about a particular subject.
I can explain my choice and support it with specific evidence.
Introduction/Connection:


Who is Jay-Z? We discuss who he was at the beginning of his career and how he has molded himself into the mogul he is today.





DIRECT INSTRUCTION:
How do we analyze a photograph? How is it different from working with a text? I model the practice verbally.
Work Period (We Do, You Do)
Students learn by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:
Will compare two photographs of Abe Lincoln. We will make our lists independently then compare them to the rest of the class.
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
Students will do a sustained quick write for 3 minutes.

Students will choose which photograph they like better and explain their reasoning in a paragraph.



Closing (We Check)
Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
