Opening (I Do)
An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

Standards:
ELAGSE9-10RI4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative, connotative, and technical meanings; analyze the cumulative impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone (e.g., how the language of a court opinion differs from that of a newspaper).
Learning Target:

I can define and give an example of many of the basic rhetorical devices.
Success Criterias:
I can look up and define rhetorical devices.
I can find or create an example for rhetorical devices.


Introduction/Connection:
Give a brief overview of what the rhetorical devices are and how we use them.





DIRECT INSTRUCTION:
Show an example of what I am expecting their notes to look like. Then, give them specific instructions as to how to create my Google Slide notes for their use.
Work Period (We Do, You Do)
Students learn by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
Students will look up and define rhetorical devices from a set list.

Students will find or create examples of each of the devices.

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
