An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

Welcome back! Review Rhetorical Devices...
Standards:
ELAGSE9-10RI4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative, connotative, and technical meanings; analyze the cumulative impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone (e.g., how the language of a court opinion differs from that of a newspaper).
Learning Target:
I can define and give an example of many of the basic rhetorical devices.
Success Criterias:
I can find examples for rhetorical devices in the provided articles. (All of them relate to 911-Bush's 9/11 speech; Obama's speech ten years after and an article discussing books about 9/11)
Introduction/Connection:
Give a brief reminder of what the rhetorical devices are and how we use them. I will also introduce the 3 pieces they may use for evidence.
DIRECT INSTRUCTION:
Show an example of what I am expecting their notes to look like. Then, give them specific instructions as to how to create my Google Slide notes for their use.
Work Period (We Do, You Do)
Students learn by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

I will show students the example I created and explain what I did correctly and where my mistakes are.
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
Students define rhetorical device assigned to them. Then, they should find examples of their assigned device from the provided materials. Then, Create a poster--visual for teaching the device.
Closing (We Check)
Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

Teacher and students will discuss whether or not the task was difficult, the purpose and what we plan to do to make ourselves successful.
