Learning Target:

I will solve systems of equations by substitution.

Success Criteria:

  • I can solve an equation for a variable.
  • I can substitute an expression into an equation to solve for a variable.
  • I can remember and understand the Box Box Circle Drag mnemonic.
  • I can identify the solution
    • One solution – (x, y)
    • No solutions – variables cancel out (false statement)
    • Infinitely many solution – variables cancel out (true statement)

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

None.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

Ticket out the doors from yesterday will be returned and reviewed as a class.    

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will complete remaining handout on substituting systems of equations to prepare for quiz tomorrow. Scaffolding throughout lesson and applications will be provided for rigor. Students will work with pairs at some points throughout the assignment.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Students will check solutions with teachers when worksheet is complete.
