Standard(s)

ELAGSE11-12RL10: By the end of grade 11, students should be able to read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 11-CCR text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range
ELAGSE11-12RL1:Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.
ELAGSE11-12RL4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including words with multiple meanings or language that is particularly fresh, engaging, and beautiful.
ELAGSE11-12L1: Demonstrate command of the convention of standard English and grammar and usage when writing or speaking.



Learning Targets

Students will be able to correctly cite textual evidence, when answering specific reading comprehension questions .

Students will be able to determine the meanings of unfamiliar vocabulary terms by using the context provided within the text

Students will be able to differentiate between that which is explicitly stated and that which is inferred with a piece of literature


Success Criterias

I can correctly cite textual evidence when answering reading comprehension questions that require supporting evidence.

I can determine the meaning of unfamiliar words as they are used in text by used the context clues provided within the text.

Literary Term: Inference and Archetypes

Activator: Page 4 in Into Literature Textbook

Class Assignment (Independent): Students will continue reading the myth, “The World on The Turtle's Back,” answering the questions in the margins of the pages read, and filling in the inference chart on page 7 in their literature textbook

Closing Assignment: Discussion over student created inference charts.
