ELAGSE11-12RL4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including words with multiple meanings or language that is particularly fresh, engaging, and beautiful.

ELAGSE11-12L4a: Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning phrases based on grades 11-12 reading a word or phrase. Use context (e.g., the overall meaning of a sentence, paragraph, or text; a word’s position or function in a sentence) as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.

Learning Targets:
Students will be able to correctly and thoroughly answer reading comprehension questions by citing and using textual evidence.

Students will be able to correctly use adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and interjections when writing.

Students will be able to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words through the use of context clues and prior knowledge.


Success Criterias:
I can correctly and thoroughly answer reading comprehension questions by citing and using textual evidence.

I can correctly use adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and interjections when writing.

I can determine which newly learned vocabulary terms should be placed in the blanks of unfamiliar sentences, through the use of context clues and prior knowledge
