Standard(s): SSWH14 Analyze the Age of Revolutions. b. Identify the causes and results of the revolutions in England (1689), United States (1776), France (1789), Haiti (1791), and Latin America (1808-1825).  c. Explain Napoleon’s rise to power, the role of geography in his defeat, and the consequences of France’s defeat for Europe.


  • LT: I will analyze the leadership of Napoleon.

  • SC: I can explain Napoleon’s rise to power. I can identify the impacts of the Napoleonic Code and the Continental System. I can explain Napoleon’s role in the Louisiana Purchase. I can identify the mistakes Napoleon made that led to his defeat. I can explain the causes and effects of the Congress of Vienna.

SSUSH6 Analyze the challenges faced by the first five presidents and how they responded. e. Explain James Monroe’s presidency in relation to the Monroe Doctrine.


  • LT: I will identify the causes and results of the Haitian Revolution & the revolutions in Latin America. 

  • SC: I can explain Toussaint L’Ouverture’s role in the Haitian Revolution. I can explain the impact of the Haitian Revolution. I can explain Simon Bolivar, Jose de San Martin, and Miguel Hidalgo's roles in the Latin American revolutions. I can explain the impact of the revolutions in Latin America. I can identify the cause and effect of the Monroe Doctrine of the United States.

  • LT: Identify and apply basic motivational concepts to understand the behavior of humans and other animals. Compare and contrast motivational theories, including the strengths and weaknesses of each. Describe classic research findings in specific motivations. Identify contributions of key researchers in the psychological field of motivation and emotion.

  • SC: Define instincts, incentives, intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation, overjustification effect, self-efficacy, and achievement motivation. Explain drive reduction theory, arousal theory (including the Yerkes-Dodson law), evolutionary theory of motivation, Maslow’s theory, and cognitive dissonance theory. Explain motivation system (eating, sex, and social). Identify the contributions of key researchers, including William James, Alfred Kinsey, Abraham Maslow, Stanley Schachter, and Hans Selye.
