MGSE9-12.F.IF.4 Algebra 1 Standards – Graphing Standard & Vertex Form of a Quadratic 

Learning Target:

·         I will graph quadratic functions.

Success Criteria:

·         I can graph a quadratic in standard form.

o    Axis of symmetry formula

o    Substitute the x-value (input) to solve for the y-value (output)

o    Direction of opening (based on the value of a)

·         I can graph a quadratic in vertex form.

o    Axis of symmetry

o    Vertex

o    Direction of opening (based on the value of a)

·         I can use the table button in my calculator to graph a quadratic function.

Introduction/Connection: 

Pirate Prep

Recall the difference of standard and vertex forms…what are the formulas?

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Review process of graphing using calculator and Desmos.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

A couple examples from handout.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will finish the problems on the handout.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Students will check their solutions with the key on the board.
