Date of Instruction:  March 3rd, 2023

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

Standard/s:

MGSE9-12. A.CED.2 Algebra 1 Standards –     Exponential Growth/Decay Functions

Learning Target:

·         I will create, analyze, and evaluate exponential growth/decay problems.

Success Criteria:

·         I can identify the exponential growth/decay equation.

o     A value – initial value

o    R value – rate or percent

o    T value - time

·         I can analyze and calculate exponential growth/decay applications.

·         I can identify the following keywords (increase, appreciate, growing, etc.) for exponential growth applications.

·         I can identify the following keywords (decrease, depreciate, falling, declining, etc.) for exponential growth applications.

·         I can identify compound interest as exponential growth applications.

o    P value – initial value

o    R value – rate or percent

o    N value – compounded amount

o    T value – time

·         I can identify half-life as exponential decay applications.

o    P value – initial value

o    T value – # of half-lives in a given period of time

Introduction/Connection:

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

None.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:

As a class, we will review one of each (growth, compound interest, decay & half-life) together as a class.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will work on Delta Math growth/decay problems.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
