Learning Target:

·         I will create and explain quadratic transformations.      

Success Criteria:

·         I can identify the following transformation given a quadratic equation in vertex form:

o   Vertical translation (shift up and down), horizontal translation (shift right and left), reflection over the x-axis, vertical compression and stretch

·         I can remember and understand the add to y go high, add to x go left mnemonic. 

·         I can write the given transformation for a quadratic equation in vertex form: 

o   Vertical translation (shift up and down), horizontal translation (shift right and left), reflection over the x-axis, vertical compression and stretch

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

As a class, the teacher will complete examples of transforming quadratic functions using vertex form.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will finish problems on handout. Students will complete problems on the board for a check towards the end of class.

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
