MGSE9-12. A.REI.4a & b Algebra 1 Standards –     Factoring & Using the Quadratic Formula to Solve Quadratics (including Applications)

Learning Target:

·         I will solve a quadratic equation. 

Success Criteria:

·         I can multiply polynomial expressions.

  • I can factor quadratic expressions.
    • Identify a quadratic expression.
    • Use the x-method to organize my work.
    • Identify the GCF.
    • Label the A, B, & C value of a quadratic equation.
    • Identify my factors of the “a and c” value.
    • Identify which factors of “a and c” add to give me the “b” value.

o    Write answers in factored form.

  • I can solve quadratic equations by factoring.
    • Put a quadratic equation in standard form
    • Factor the quadratic

o    Solve each factor when equal to zero

  • I can solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula.
    • Put a quadratic equation in standard form
    • Label A, B, and C

o    Plug in values into the quadratic formula

o    Calculate my two solutions using the calculator

·         I can solve quadratic equations by using the completing the square process.

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

As a class, we will work on solving quadratic application problems together. 

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will work on the rest of the applications during class with a partner (if possible).

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
