ELAGSE9-10RI5: Analyze in detail how an author’s ideas or claims are developed and refined by particular sentences, paragraphs, or larger portions of a text (e.g., a section or chapter).

ELAGSE9-10RI6: Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how an author uses rhetoric to advance that point of view or purpose.

Learning Target:

1. read closely and analyze the structure of an autobiographical essay 

2.  understand how visual elements of a text contribute to meaning 

3. explain how two texts convey different perspectives on a common theme

Success Criteria:

1.create written responses to a prompt 

2 Draw annotated storyboards

Activities & Assignments

Latin Root

Class will begin with a quick review of the article from last friday. We will once again view the artwork which closed out the course last week. The instructor will introduce the concept of storyboards and discuss how filmmakers sketch scenes before filming. 

The instructor will then distribute a handout with small boxes for students to use for there own drawing. Students will form groups to choose pivotal scenes for story boards and work together to DRAW those story boards. 

When all of the story boards are finished, we will organize a viewing of each groups work with a careful emphasis on the presence of the character Jeff in each. We will respond to a prompt about Jeff and consider his role within the writing. 

Class will conclude with a closing prompt and writing from Jeff’s point of view. We will then revisit the lingering chat wall to add quotes and observations.
