      • ELAGSE9-10L4.c: Consult general and specialized reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation of a word or determine or clarify its precise meaning, its part of speech, or its etymology.

    • ELAGSE9-10L6: Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression




Learning Target:

  1. Read closely and analyze an article about knights

  2. Prepare for the oncoming unit on Arthur and the Green Knight

Success Criteria:

  1. Students will create annotated texts with detailed notes regarding their impressions medieval knights

  2. Students will write a short story about a revered figure as a knight and what they would represent


Activities & Assignments

PP: Latin Root


Students will begin the class with a general discussion about the era of knight hood and what it entailed. The instructor will tell a few quick “Arthurian” tales before the students read the article. 


Students will read the article, write paragraph summaries, and answer the guided questions. 


Students will then read a follow up article with a particular arthurian legend of the black knight. They will respond to a few discussion questions in their journals. Students will conclude class with a story about a revered figure and why they would be worthy of knighthood.
