MGSE9-12.F.IF.7 & 9 Algebra 1 Standards  Comparing linear, quadratic & exponential rates of change.

Learning Target:

·         I will compare and contrast linear, quadratic, and exponential functions.

Success Criteria:

·         I can calculate the average rate of change for linear, quadratic, exponential functions.

o    Rate of change means to find slope

o    Slope formula

Introduction/Connection: 

Pirate Prep

Verbally review slope formula & the process of calculating slope.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

None.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

We will complete a couple problems together from the handout. One of each function.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will complete the remaining problems on the worksheet individually and with a partner in class.  Students will then share solutions on the board for check as a class.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
