      • ELAGSE9-10L4.c: Consult general and specialized reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation of a word or determine or clarify its precise meaning, its part of speech, or its etymology.

    • ELAGSE9-10L6: Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression




Learning Target:

  1. Read closely and analyze an article about the continuing appeal of Shakespere

  2. Connect Shakespere’s works with modern stories and retellings.

Success Criteria:

  1. Students will create annotated texts with detailed notes regarding the role of Shakespere in the modern world.

  2. Students will write their own short versions of a modern Shakespere Theme. 


Activities & Assignments

PP: Latin Root


Students will begin the class with a general summary of several iconic Shakespeare plays including Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Taming of the Shrew, King Lear, and Macbeth. Students will be asked to identify a few parodies or retellings of Shakespere they have encountered in popculture. 


Students will read and respond to the Achieve article on the continuing popularity of Shakespere. Summaries must be written and the questions provided with the article must be given a response. 


Students will write their own short versions of timeless Shakespere classics and share to end the class.
