  2. Draw a portrait of the Green Knight based on the long description from the text.

Activities & Assignments

FFW

The class will begin with a discussion of the Green Knight text and its history. We will then read the first paragraphs closely. Students will free write and try to translate what the text says, as it is lifted from a very old dialect.

The instructor will guide students through the old history of the trojan war and its aftermath. We will reflect on the need for this history in a story very much focused on the fate of individuals. Students will be invited to split into groups and write an embellished history of their own families. The instructor will come around to pick a winning story from each group.

The class will then read the long description of the Green Knight himself. After picking a few key aspects of his person, the class will be invited to draw a portrait of the green knight using colored pencils.
