ELAGSE9-10RL3: Analyze how complex characters(e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

Learning Target:

1. Analyze a scene from Gawain and The Green Knight

2. Reflect on the value of possessions and what makes them valued. 

Success Criteria:

1. I can translate a difficult paragraph from a work outside the US. 

2. I can connect my own experience with that of the text in a writing about prized possessions. 

Activities & Assignments

Discovering Voice 

The class will begin with a reading toward the end of the Green Knight where the stole of green silk is given to Gawain (par. 29). Students will translate this scene and even draw their own interpretation of what the silk looks like. Students will be invited to think of their most prized or most COVETED possession. What makes it valuable to you? Is it truly as valuable as you think?
