Activities & Assignments

PP: Latin Root

We will begin class with a hand out featuring a rather large set of new vocabulary words. These words are all taken from the opening of a novel. Students will cut these words out from the handout, look up and define the words, and then arrange them in categories created by their own student groups.

Students will then get the chance to visit other groups and view their own systems of categorization. We will observe differences and similarities in the categories.

We will conclude class with an activity where we attempt to theorize on the novel itself just based on the vocab and the categories. Where is it set? What is happening? The instructor will provide frame sentences and offer aid where it is needed.
