High School Weekly Lesson Plan Template Week of: 9/4/2023 Honors World History AP Psychology Monday - 4th LABOR DAY - NO SCHOOL LABOR DAY - NO SCHOOL Tuesday - 5th Standard(s): SSWH7 Analyze European medieval society with regard to culture, politics, society, and economics. a. Explain the manorial system and feudal relationships, include: the status of peasants and feudal monarchies and the importance of Charlemagne. b. Explain the political impact of Christianity and the role of the church in medieval society. LT: I will analyze European medieval societies. SC: I can explain the importance of Charlemagne. I can explain the manorial system in Europe. I can explain the feudal relationships of Western Europe. I can describe the impact of the Catholic Church in Europe. Lesson/Activity: “Culture Shock: Crumbling Kingdom:” students will engage in a series of tasks that illustrate the connection between the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of feudalism. By participating in the mini-simulations, they will understand the necessity of feudalism and self-sufficiency following the collapse of the Roman Empire. Apocalypse- 5 things you need for survival Water (aqueducts breaking down– where are you going to go now?) Food (pottage– which would you rather eat?) Shelter– house of cards (demonstrates how it was nearly impossible to recreate the massive apartments and estates of the Roman Empire without the proper resources [building materials and know-how]. Thus, people have to live in smaller, needs-only housing) Breakdown of literacy and government: work in pairs to follow 4 prompts to rebuild their society. Purpose of activity is to demonstrate decline in literacy and trade throughout Europe and how it led to the rise of feudalism. Class discussion & exit ticket: How did these tasks represent the fall of the Roman Empire? How would you characterize Europe during this time period? How/why did people come together to survive? Resources: Unit 2 organizer, Pear Deck, playing cards Standard(s): Topics 2.5 & 2.8 - The Influence of Drugs on the Nervous System LT: Discuss the influence of drugs on neurotransmitters. SC: Explain reuptake mechanisms, agonists, and antagonists. Identify the major psychoactive drug categories and classify specific drugs (stimulants, depressants, & hallucinogens), including their psychological and physiological effects. Explain drug dependence, addiction, tolerance, and withdrawal. Lesson/Activity: Crusades brief overview video with questions (We Do); Crusades Experience– As a class, we will embark on a “crusade” around BHS. As we make our journey, students will complete a series of tasks/journal entries about the Crusades.
