Success Criteria:
Students Will create Jigsaw style notes and presentations to better understand the story.
Students will closely analyze elements of exposition and how they connect with later events to build tension and explore character.
Activities & Assignments
PP: FFW
The instructor will first split the story into five separate sections. Students will form groups and crate Jigsaw style notes and summaries on each section to help them better understand the story’s events. Each group will deliver a short presentation of what exactly happened in their section of the story.
From here the instructor will call attention to the exposition. The class will create a short profile of the father figure: George. Based on what he says who does he remind us of? What kind of father is he? What may be the benefits of having a father like this? Drawbacks?
We will then skip forward to a moment of reflection where we get to explore George’s thoughts and attitudes as they change. Students will create a one pager outline of George at the beginning and at this reflective moment in the story. Students will then be asked to discuss how their attitude toward George has changed as the story has progressed.
