ELAGSE9-10RL1: Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
ELAGSE9-10RL3: Analyze how complex characters(e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

Learning Target:
read closely and analyze a short story
Analyze the effects of literary and stylistic elements.
Success Criteria:
Students will write responses to prompts
Students will write analytical sentences
Students will write annotated texts


Activities & Assignments
PP: Latin Root

Read the rest of Lamb to the slaughter aloud! Explore the idea “When does Mary lose control? Does she?”

Instructor will define Irony and students will be asked to work in pairs to answer the question “who knows what?” How does this knowledge enhance the story?

Conclude with a quick discussion of subordinate conjunctions and their function to introduce conflicting information.

We will finish our day with a viewing of a film version of “Lamb to the Slaughter!” Some guiding questions will be required, mainly asking about the differences between the two versions.
