Students will be invited to read section three of “An Occurrence at Owlcreek Bridge.” We will then create a three column chart where students discuss language that conveys powerful feelings, sight, and sound from the story. We will follow this activity with a discussion to share our insights.
We will take a final look at the last two lines of the story and conduct a careful analysis of the contrast in the word choice and style of the two sentences. Again, we will conduct a discussion and share a complex sentence comparing these two penultimate lines.
We will conclude with an outline of the story as a whole. Where does the story shift in perspective and language? Several final prompts will help us explore the final choices of the author as we conclude our reading.
