Standard/s:     

SSCG3(c): Explain the fundamental principles of the United States Constitution, including limited government, the rule of law, federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, and popular sovereignty. 


Learning Target:

I will analyze how the US Constitution addresses the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.



Success Criteria:

  • I can describe how the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation are addressed in the Preamble of the Constitution 


Introduction/Connection: 

Recap AOC weaknesses

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

 Google Slide notes over the Preamble and how it “fixed” what was wrong with the AOC

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Students will discuss and read aloud with teacher about the Preamble and answer questions in differentiated formats 



INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

In Pairs, students will analyze real world scenarios and decide which part of the Preamble it relates to


Students will find newspaper articles and describe how it demonstrates the goals of Preamble

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
