Standard(s): SSWH7 Analyze European medieval society with regard to culture, politics, society, and economics. d. Describe the causes and impact of the Crusades on the Islamic World and Europe.


  • LT: I will describe the causes and effects of the Crusades. 

  • SC: I can explain the significance of the Holy Land to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. I can explain the source of conflict between Christians and Muslims. I can explain how the Crusades stimulated trade in Western Europe. 


Lesson/Activity: Crusades brief overview video with questions (We Do); Crusades Experience– As a class, we will embark on a “crusade” around BHS. As we make our journey, students will complete a series of tasks/journal entries about the Crusades.

Explain the main characteristics of humanism. d. Explain the importance of Gutenberg and the invention of the printing press. e. Analyze the impact of the Protestant Reformation, include: the ideas of Martin Luther and John Calvin. f. Describe the English Reformation, include: the role of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. g. Describe the Counter Reformation at the Council of Trent and the role of the Jesuits.

  • LT: Describe general principles of organizing and integrating sensation to promote stable awareness of the external world. Discuss basic principles of sensory transduction, including absolute threshold, difference threshold, signal detection, and sensory adaptation. Identify the research contributions of major historical figures in sensation and perception.

  • SC: Explain Gestalt principles, depth perception, top-down processing, bottom-up processing. Identify the contributions of Gustav Fechner, David Hubel, Ernst Weber, and Torsten Wiesel.

  • LT: Describe the vision process, including the specific nature of energy transduction, relevant anatomical structures, and specialized pathways in the brain for each of the senses. Explain common sensory conditions.

  • SC: Explain the vision process, concepts related to visual perception, theories of color vision, visual and hearing impairments, and synesthesia.
