Learning Target:
Read closely and analyze an article about adoption.
Connect the concept of adoption with the novel Silas Marner
Success Criteria:
Students will create annotated texts with detailed notes regarding their impressions of adoption.
Students will respond to guided text about a prolific foster parent and explore the word “selfless.”
Activities & Assignments
PP: FFW
Class will begin with a short summary of an achieve article on fostering. Students will be asked to pre-write on their feelings on foster parents and adoption. Students will then be invited to read the achieve article and write summaries on its contents.
Once the students are done with the achieve article, the class will discuss whether their attitudes changed. A stretch article regarding the practice of “foundling wheels” will also be provided to give further insight into the time of Silas Marner’s era.
Class will close with magazine project time.
