Learning Target:
Recognize the diverse attitudes the novels characters have regarding children, and how some seem to change while others do not.
Discuss the potential symbolism of children in a story about money and its loss
Success Criteria:
I will use a one pager to diagram the different characters and map out their attitudes to the story’s children.
I will compare my groups chart with others to see what I or my peers may have missed.
Activities & Assignments
PP: Discovering voice
The class will begin with a review of the adoption articles from yesterday. The instructor will give a general overview of the role of adoption in the story to catch students up on the events of the novel so far. Students versed on the novel’s events will have a chance to earn pirate bucks.
The class will then review several passages from the story. All will feature children (or a strange lack thereof). The class will focus freewrite on the evolution of each character’s attitude or lack thereof. Using a one pager, we will chart the initial perception of Marner, and where he ends up in the story. We will also explore Godfrey and what can be inferred from his behavior.
