  • LT: I will analyze absolutism in Europe. 

  • SC: I can define absolutism and describe the characteristics of an absolute monarch. I can define divine right and explain how monarchs used the concept to strengthen their reign. I can explain how absolutism inspired the Enlightenment.

Explain the scientific contributions of Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, and Newton and how these ideas changed the European worldview.

  • LT: I will analyze the Enlightenment’s effects on the western world. 

  • SC: I can explain how the Scientific Revolution changed Europeans’ view of the world.

Identify the major ideas of the Enlightenment from the writings of Locke, Voltaire, and Rousseau, and their relationship to politics and society.

  • LT: I will analyze the Enlightenment’s effects on the western world. 

  • SC: I can define the Enlightenment and explain its causes. I can describe the ideas of Locke, Voltaire, Rousseau, & Montesquieu. I can identify the major ideas of the Enlightenment in the United States’ government.

SSUSH3 Analyze the causes of the American Revolution. a. Explain how the French and Indian War and the 1763 Treaty of Paris laid the groundwork for the American Revolution.
