  • LT: Recognize the use of the most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association as the primary reference for making diagnostic judgments. Describe contemporary and historical conceptions of what constitutes psychological disorders. Discuss the intersection between psychology and the legal system.

  • SC: Explain the insanity defense and how it does not apply to psychological diagnoses.

  • SC: I can explain the Schlieffen Plan and its outcome. I can identify the technology of WWI & describe its overall impact on warfare. I can explain how the U.S. moved from neutrality to joining WWI.

Lesson/Activity: Pirate Prep; All Quiet on the Western Front movie analysis– as students watch the film, they must document 2 examples of nationalism, 2 examples of militarism, 5 examples of warfare technology, describe trench warfare using specific examples from the movie to support the previous lesson’s notes, and address how WWI affected soldiers’ mental health using at least 3 examples from the movie

Explain the major decisions made in the Versailles Treaty, include: German reparations and the mandate system that replaced Ottoman control. d. Analyze the destabilization of Europe in the collapse of the great empires.
