SSCG2 (b) Analyze the impact of the writings of Hobbes (Leviathan), Locke (Second Treatise on Government), Rousseau (The Social Contract), and Montesquieu (The Spirit of the Laws) on our concept of government.

LT:  I will analyze the key ideas and writings of early philosophers and how those shaped the development and structure of the United States government.

SC:I can identify the key characteristics of Hobbes’ concept of government

  • I can identify the key characteristics of Locke’s concept of government

LT:I will examine the effects of the Transatlantic Slave Trade on Africa and on the colonies in the Americas

  • I can investigate how mercantilism and Trans-Atlantic trade led to the development of colonies 

  • I can describe the Middle Passage, the growth of the African population and their contributions, including but not limited to architecture, agriculture, and foodways
