The instructor will introduce two texts demonstrating. Poetry and prose. Students will be invited to analyze the samples and come to a conclusion about which text is which. From there, the class will draw up a chart in their notes reflecting on their observations.
From here the class will take a much closer look at Poetry as a genre. What makes the passage poetic? What differentiates it from prose? The instructor will present a large piece of prose the poetry is built from.
The class will explore the concept of the FOUND poem. The class will then be invited to construct their own found poems from a short story sample.
