American Government 


Monday

SSCG2: Demonstrate knowledge of the political philosophies that shaped the development of the United States constitutional government.


Learning Target: I will be prepared for the Unit 1 test.

Success Criteria:

  • I can define citizenship

  • I can define and give examples of civic duty

  • I can list and describe the different forms of government

  • I can compare and contrast representative and direct democracies

  • I can explain the impact that enlightenment philosophers had on the development of the U.S. government and the Declaration of Independence,

  • I can define social contract,

  • I can define triangular trade and mercantilism, and how these eventually led to salutary neglect of the colonies,

  • I can explain how salutary neglect led to the development of the government in the colonies, 

  • I can explain how the French and Indian war led to the end of salutary neglect,

  • I can explain how the end of salutary neglect led to rebellion in the colonies.

Learning Target: I will analyze how the US Constitution addresses the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. 


Success Criteria: 

  • I can identify the 8 weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation 

  • I can analyze the effect of each weakness of the AOC

  • I can describe how Shays’ Rebellion exposed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, including how it pushed the framers to house the Constitutional Convention of 1787
