Standard(s): SSCG3b: Analyze how the Constitution addresses the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.


Learning Target: I will analyze how the US Constitution addresses the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. 


Success Criteria: 

  • I can identify the 8 weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation 

  • I can analyze the effect of each weakness of the AOC

  • I can describe how Shays’ Rebellion exposed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, including how it pushed the framers to house the Constitutional Convention of 1787

Learning Target: I will analyze the debates during the drafting of the Constitution, including the Three-Fifths Compromise, the Great Compromise, and the Commerce Clause. 


Success Criteria: 

  • I can identify the 5 issues that were debated during the drafting of the US Constitution 

  • I can identify both sides of the issues debated during the drafting of the US Constitution

  • I can determine the compromises that arose from the debates during the drafting of the US Constitution such as: 

    • The Great Compromise 

    • Commerce Compromise

    • Slave Trade Compromise 

    • Three-Fifths Compromise 

    • Creating the Electoral College

  • I can identify the issues brought forth by the Anti-Federalists 

  • I can explain how the Bill of Rights addressed the issues brought forth by the Anti-Federalists 

  • I can analyze excerpts of the Federalist Papers that support the argument for a strong central government
