SSCG8b: Describe the election process for representatives and senators and how the 17th Amendment impacted the election of senators.


SSCG8c: Compare the terms of office for each chamber of Congress and explain the Founders’ intent.

 I will compare the terms of office for each chamber of the US Congress and explain the intent of the framers of the US Constitution 


Success Criteria

  • I can identify the formal qualifications for US House of representatives 

  • I can identify the formal qualifications for the US Senators 

  • I can describe the election process of the US House of Representatives

  • I can describe the election process of the US Senate

  • I can describe how the 17th Amendment changed how the people of the US directly elect the US Senators

  • I can identify the terms of office for the US House of Representatives

  • I can identify the terms of office for the US Senate 

  • I can explain the framers’ intent of developing an upper house is that the US Senate will be a continuous body that is elected every six years

  • I can explain the framers’ intent of developing a lower house is that the US House of representatives will be elected every two years
