BHS, GA Named 2024 AP Honor Schools

Brunswick High and Glynn Academy have been recognized statewide for high achievement in student success. In College Board’s latest report, they are among 99 other schools across the state to be named a 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor School.

According to the College Board report, Brunswick High was named an AP Access and Support School, AP STEM School and AP Expansion School – a first in the school’s history. This means that AP student participation has grown by at least 25 percent from May 2022 to May 2023 and a minimum of 25 students tested in May 2022. 

Glynn Academy was recognized as an AP Humanities School, AP Humanities Achievement School, AP School of Distinction, AP STEM School and AP STEM Achievement School. AP Humanities Schools are schools with at least five exams administered in one ELA course, two social studies courses, one fine arts course, and one world language course and a minimum of 25 total exams administered. AP Humanities Achievement Schools are those with at least 50% of all AP Humanities exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

“These honors reflect our students’ desire to challenge themselves but also underscores the incredible support our teachers and staff provide for them to thrive. We are proud that achievements like these are building a culture of success at both high schools,” said Eric Benson, Assistant Superintendent, 6-12.

AP Access and Support Schools are schools with at least 30% of AP exams taken by students who identified as African American and/or Hispanic (minimum of 16 students) and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. At least 25 exams must be administered. 

AP Schools of Distinction are schools with at least 20 percent of the total student population took AP exams and at least 50 percent of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. AP STEM Schools are schools with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses and a minimum of 25 exams administered, whereas AP STEM Achievement Schools are those with at least with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses and at least 50 percent of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 2024 AP Honor Schools,” Superintendent Woods said. “I commend them for their hard work to build strong Advanced Placement programs and, as a result, provide high-quality opportunities for Georgia students. Additionally, I am thrilled that the number of AP Honor Schools and school districts continues to rise each year – a testament to the commitment of Georgia public education to expand opportunities for all Georgia students.”
 
The Georgia Department of Education’s annual list is comprised of eight categories based on the results of 2021 AP courses and exams: AP Access and Support Schools, AP Challenge Schools, AP Schools of Distinction, AP Expansion Schools, AP Humanities Schools, AP Humanities Achievement Schools, AP STEM Schools, and AP STEM Achievement Schools.
