Pirates Cove Awards $2,500 in Mini-Grants to Brunswick High School Teachers

Pirates Cove, Brunswick High School’s school store operated by Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members, recently awarded five $500 mini-grants to support classroom and student organization projects.
BHS teachers submitted 15 applications for funding, proposing ways to enrich learning and provide meaningful experiences for students. Five recipients were selected, with projects spanning science, art, literacy, hands-on production, and gardening.
The mini-grant recipients are:
-
Gena Wynn, who will purchase Science Olympiad study materials to help students deepen their scientific knowledge and prepare for competition.
-
Cynthia Gonzalez, who will purchase equipment that ACCESS students will use to create products, bringing real-world applications into the classroom.
-
Jamie Scott, who will provide National Art Honor Society students with an opportunity to view the Michelangelo’s Women exhibit and experience art beyond the classroom.
-
Alicia Curles, who will establish a library of diverse, high-interest book sets for the BHS Book Club, encouraging reading and meaningful discussion.
-
Joshua Parker, who will expand the ACCESS garden plot at the SSI Garden Club, enriching students’ hands-on learning while reinforcing responsibility, social skills, and daily living skills.
Through the mini-grant program, Pirates Cove and its student operators are investing in the school community while putting business and leadership skills into practice. The awards demonstrate how a student-run enterprise can help create additional learning opportunities across Brunswick High School.
Congratulations to all five recipients, and thank you to the teachers who submitted proposals to make a difference for BHS students.
